Purple Martin House Installed

by Lambdafarm on June 23, 2011

My Mom had asked for a purple martin house for Christmas.  It took until mid May to get it up.  We didn’t have a telescoping pole, so Dad fixed a hinge to hold two landscape timbers together.  This would allow us to lower the house once a year to clean it out.  Except that the hinge is bending in the wind.  We are going to have to attach a guy wire to it to support the house in the wind.

Very nice. Purple Martins are so beautiful. The birds I have feeders set up for are fiends, they go through so much food… maybe I should build them a house.

The birds are fun to watch, but they do eat a lot. Of course, they eat a lot of insects, especially birds like purple martins, so it evens out.

Its a nice idea. But yeah, it does bend a little on the picture. The view of the birds must be stress-relieving. 🙂

My parents like to watch the birds while they eat at their kitchen table. The birds, of course, have their own breakfast outside.
