White Oak Box with Walnut overlay and Birds Eye Maple Wood Hinges

by Lambdafarm on September 17, 2010

I made this box and learned a lot about materials construction.  Thin white oak warps, especially then thinner black walnut is glued to it.  White oak is too brittle to make hinges from, the first set blew up when used.  This set is made from bird’s eye maple and is still rather fragile.  Altogether, a lot of effort for a box that is too fragile for much use.  However, I learned a lot and that counts for something.
