Wood Duck House

by Lambdafarm on January 17, 2011

Wood ducks are larger than most birds people make bird houses for, with the exception of raptors.  This box is about three feet tall.  Inside the front is a strip of 1/4 inch hardware mesh.  When the wood duck eggs hatch, the babies crawl up the mesh and then drop into the water, where they are safer from predators.  Consequently, mounting a wood duck box usually means getting wet.
